The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says a cyclist suffered several serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene of the accident.

According to an EPS news release, “On May 13, at approximately 6:15 a.m. a collision occurred between a cyclist and a vehicle at the intersection of 142 Street and 137 Avenue.”

A 62-year-old female cyclist was traveling southbound on 142 Street, crossing 137 Avenue, when an eastbound BMW proceeded into the intersection against a red light and collided with the cyclist.

The vehicle stopped momentarily a short distance away before fleeing the area at a high rate of speed, police say.

Jeff Strickland, of Major Collision Investigation Unit said. “We would like to speak with this male who obtained the licence plate and any other witnesses who have not spoken with police already.”
