Evidence indicates that a pick up truck was travelling northbound in the southbound lane when it collided with an SUV travelling southbound.

The SUV had three occupants.  A 17-year-old female, and 16-year-old male, both of Sherwood Park were pronounced deceased at the scene. The third occupant, a 15-year-old female from Fort Saskatchewan was taken to an area hospital, where she remains with serious injuries. The 45-year-old male driver of the pick up truck was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

River Radio spoke with Corporal Laurel Scott and asked if the driver who hit the teens was drinking.

An RCMP collision analyst and forensic reconstructionist attended the scene to conduct an examination.  Traffic was diverted for several hours and the highway was cleared for travel at 3:30 a.m. this morning.

The investigation into the cause of this collision continues and it is not anticipated that RCMP will be able to provide an update for several weeks.

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is requesting that anyone with dashcam footage from Highway 21, either of the collision or of the pickup truck prior to the collision, please contact the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP.
