The RCMP have confirmed that the human remains found on Feb. 24, 2020 on the Ermineskin First Nation are those of Willard Swampy.

Willard Swampy, 55, was reported missing to Wetaskiwin RCMP on Nov. 28, 2019. Efforts were made to locate him. Wetaskiwin reported his disappearance initially to the media on Dec. 3, 2019, and then again on Jan. 9, 2020.

The RCMP was not able to confirm this information prior to positive identification being established with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  No further information will be provided.

The Maskwacis RCMP Community Response Unit and General Investigative Section are investigating following the discovery of human remains near Highway 2A on the Ermineskin First Nation.

On February 24, 2020, police responded to a report of possible human remains located near a rural residence.  RCMP Police Dog Services were engaged, and RCMP and Red Deer and Wetaskiwin Search and Rescue assisted with searching the area.

The identity and gender have not been determined, but the death is not considered suspicious at this time. No further information is available and an update is not expected until identity can be confirmed and next of kin notified.
